Survivor's Group
-
The Survivors Groups
are for women who have been survivors of childhood abuse, sexual
abuse, incest, rape, victim of violent crime(s), had parents who
were drug/alcohol addicted, mentally ill, etc. The focus of the group is to discuss similar
experiences and the lasting impact that it has had in their
adult life. Most members of the survivors group have
posttraumatic stress disorder.
-
The group will offer
survivors a safe place to come talk about their experiences with others who have similar
experiences.
-
The Survivors
Group includes skills training from Dialectic Behavioral Therapy
and other PTSD management programs. Skills training and reviews
are done during part of the group and the other part of the
group is a regular process group. Art therapy, game therapy,
bibliotherapy and other creative therapies are also a part of
the survivors group.
-
Participants will learn
about "Accommodation Syndromes," experiencing "Damaged Goods
Syndrome," stages of "Rape Trauma Syndrome," and explore
similarities and differences members have experienced.
-
Discussion of the
different "illnesses" that survivors typically face, such as
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depressive Disorders,
Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Acute Traumatic Stress
Disorders, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, and Dissociative
Disorders.
-
Survivors Groups are closed
groups. Members must meet with the therapist prior to attending
group. Therapist reserves the right to disallow anyone from
attending the group. The make up of member personalities in the
group is crucial for member's emotional safety. Every member is
asked to make a minimum of a 6 month commitment to the group. It
is strongly recommended that each participant be in individual
therapy as well. It is recommended, but not required.
-
Cost of the group is $35/$45
per session. Survivors Group meets every other week on Saturday mornings.
